The inverted posture creates a powerful sense of movement and transformation. Rather than depicting the human figure as static, Hori presents the body as if it is crossing between two realms — the earthly world below and the sky or “heaven” above.
A particularly striking element is the relationship between the smooth, highly polished body and the surrounding rough stone. The human figure is rendered with soft, flowing anatomical forms, while the stone retains a strong chiseled texture. This contrast emphasizes the idea of life emerging from the raw material of nature.
